Stained Glass

My first part time job as a teenager was building stained glass. I would take the train from the suburbs to the studio in a 400 year old building in Old Montreal. After a 30 year break I made a piece to see if I still remembered how.

I drew this image from a photo I took of the Elk river, then made this stained glass piece out of it.

This is one of the pieces I made as a teenager, working as an artist's apprentice.
This is the most complex piece we did when I was working as the apprentice. The girl is dreaming of the scene in the back ground. To make the effect of a dream the palace and the samurai are on a second sheet of glass a few inches behind clear rippled glass at the top of the front piece. As the observer walks across the room (or air currents move the panels) the background image distorts and moves like a dream.
These images show how the background distorts when the pains are moved.
Collaboration with my wife Robin. She did the glass, I did the metal.
